- feral rabbits introduced to Australia have had devasting effects on our local ecology. Therefore, during our Easter holiday many organisations attempt to move interest away from the Easter bunny icon and towards the bilby, which is listed as a 'vulnerable' marsupial. 

- The bilby is highly adaptable. Because they have been push out of grass and shrublands by competitors and introduced predators, they have learnt to live in deserts. In fact, bilbies do not drink any water! They manage to get all the water they require from the food they eat – mainly bugs, grubs and fungi.

- Bilbies eyesight is not very good; they reply upon their excellent hearing from their large ears and sense of smell to avoid predators and find food.

- Bilbies are marsupials however, their pouches open from the bottom rather then the top like kangaroos or koalas.
